Two Green Roof Detention Models Applied in Two Green Roof Systems

نویسندگان

چکیده

A two-stage physically-based detention model has been developed for green roof systems. Vertical flow in the substrate is represented by Richards equation, and horizontal underlying drainage layer modeled Saint Venant equation. This (2SPB) stormwater management (SWMM) low impact development control (SWMM-GR) were validated using measured runoff profiles from two contrasting systems: a conventional system; an innovative system intended to enhance detention. The parameters identified independent physical tests. 2SPB provides reasonable estimation of system. However, not capable representing conditions system’s layer, such that results less accurate this compared with SWMM-GR representative its overall performance due assumptions inherent percolation model.

Integration of green roof and solar photovoltaic systems

Green roof and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are two technologies that could contribute to sustainable building development and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. When they are combined together on the building roof, it can enhance their functions and effectiveness by cooling and shading effects. This paper explains the major findings of a research to study the benefits of integrating gre...

Quantifying Evapotranspiration from a Green Roof Analytically

Green roofs are a common stormwater control measure used to help mitigate increased stormwater runoff caused by urbanization. Green roofs can retain upwards of 90% of rain given the appropriate conditions. Green roof design parameters, such as substrate composition and depth and plant type, affect the retention capabilities of green roofs by storing and allowing greater extraction of water by p...

Physical parameterization and sensitivity of urban hydrological models: Application to green roof systems

Rapid urbanization has emerged as the source of many adverse environmental effects and brings cities to a vulnerable situation under future climate challenges. Green roofs are proven to be an effective solution to alleviate these effects by field observations under a wide range of climate conditions. Recent advances in modeling urban land-atmosphere interactions provide a useful tool in capturi...

Comparative microclimate and dewfall measurements at an urban green roof versus bitumen roof

Urban green roofs are discussed as a local climate adaptation measure to limit surface warming and increase evaporative cooling by vegetation in urban environments. A five month measurement campaign was conducted to observe surface and air temperatures as well as dewfall dynamics and amounts on an urban green and co-located bitumen roof. Measurements were performed in the period from August to ...

Design, Implementation, and Monitoring of Purdue's First Green Roof

To educate the Purdue community and general public about the environmental benefits of green roofs, the Boiler Green Initiative (BGI) installed Tippecanoe County’s first green roof on Purdue’s campus in May 2009. The extensive green roof is approximately 165 m and consists of vegetation and pavers to make the space an aesthetically pleasing, usable environment. A monitoring system records surfa...
